Nurturing Fibres Yarn - Frequently Asked Questions
About Nurturing Fibres Yarns
Q: What makes Nurturing Fibres yarn eco-friendly?
A: Nurturing Fibres yarns are made from sustainable, renewable plant-based fibers including 100% cotton and bamboo. They're produced in South Africa with environmentally conscious practices, making them a responsible choice for eco-minded crafters.
Q: What's the difference between Eco-Cotton, Eco-Bamboo, Eco-Lush, and Eco-Fusion?
A: Each yarn has unique characteristics:
• Eco-Cotton (DK weight) - 100% cotton, soft and durable, perfect for everyday items
• Eco-Bamboo (DK weight) - 100% bamboo with silk-like sheen and elegant drape
• Eco-Lush (Sport weight) - 60% cotton/40% bamboo blend, incredibly soft, ideal for baby items
• Eco-Fusion (DK weight) - 50% cotton/50% bamboo blend with unique matte and shiny texture
Q: Do the yarns come in skeins or balls?
A: All Nurturing Fibres Eco Yarns come in convenient balls, ready to use without winding! We recommend pulling from the center of the ball.
Q: Are the speckled colorways repeatable across balls?
A: Yes! The speckled versions feature reliable, repeatable color patterns that match across balls, making them perfect for multi-ball projects. You can trust the colors to be consistent.
Q: How much yarn is in each ball?
A:
• Eco-Cotton, Eco-Fusion, and their speckled versions: 164 yd (150 m) per 50g ball
• Eco-Lush and Eco-Lush Speckled: 218 yd (200 m) per 50g ball
• Eco-Bamboo: 136 yd (125 m) per 50g ball
Care & Use
Q: How do I care for items made with Nurturing Fibres yarn?
A: All Nurturing Fibres yarns are machine washable! For best results:
• Cotton and cotton-blend yarns: Machine wash, lay flat to dry
• Bamboo yarns: Machine wash in cool water, do not tumble dry
Q: What needle or hook sizes work best?
A: It really depends on what kind of fabric you would like to create, and also what your pattern calls for! The suggestions below are a good place to start!
• DK weight yarns (Eco-Cotton, Eco-Bamboo, Eco-Fusion): US 5-7 (3.75-4.5mm)
• Sport weight yarns (Eco-Lush): US 3-6 (3.25-4mm)
Always check your gauge for your specific project!
Q: Are these yarns suitable for baby items?
A: Absolutely! All Nurturing Fibres yarns are hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. Eco-Lush is especially popular for baby projects due to its incredible softness.
Q: Can I use these yarns for garments?
A: Yes! These yarns are perfect for wearables. The cotton provides durability while the bamboo adds beautiful drape and sheen. They're comfortable for next-to-skin wear.
Ordering & Projects
Q: How many balls do I need for my project?
A: This depends on your project size and gauge. As a general guide. Remember to add 30% more yarn for crocheted projects! You'll need less Eco-Lush balls, as it is a thinner yarn.
• Baby blanket: 4-6 balls
• Narrow Adult scarf: 3-4 balls of Eco-Cotton or Eco-Fusion
• Adult sweater: 8-12 balls (depending on size) of Eco-Cotton or Eco-Fusion
Always purchase extra to ensure you have enough from the same dye lot!
Q: Will the colors match if I order more balls later?
A: For solid colors, we recommend ordering all yarn for your project at once to ensure dye lot consistency. For speckled yarns, the patterns are repeatable and designed to match across different balls, however dye lot differences may occur.
Q: Where are Nurturing Fibres yarns made?
A: Nurturing Fibres yarns are proudly spun, and hand-dyed in South Africa.
Q: I see some products marked as DISCONTINUED. Will they come back?
A: Discontinued items (like Eco-Bamboo Speckled and Eco-Lush Speckled) are no longer in production. We recommend purchasing while supplies last if you love these colorways!
