The Story Behind Good Loops: A Journey of Courage, Yarn, and Belonging

Good Loops didn't begin as a business plan or a grand vision.
It was more of a 'wouldn't it be amazing if...' that pops into your mind over good food and great wine on lazy afternoons with my loved ones.

The Moment Everything Changed

It was mid 2017, I was in between jobs, and my husband had just gifted me a 'Passion Planner'. It wasn't just a daily planner—it also included a guide that prompted you to write down your ideas and goals. As I explored what those could be, a phrase I had written seemed to leap out of the page:

"Do that thing that scares you"

How little did I understand how life-changing that statement would be. I only knew that something inside me was restless. A goodie two shoes at heart, I had followed the paths I was expected to follow—education, career, etc, the sensible routes—but none of my choices ever felt like my own. There was a quiet ache in me for something more joyful, more creative, more connected.

The Dream That Made My Heart Race

And the thing I was most afraid of?
Leaving all of that behind to follow a dream that made my heart race:
a dream about adventure, about business, about yarn.

Not just yarn as a material, but yarn as a companion on a journey.
Yarn as a reason to travel—across oceans, across landscapes, across inner terrain.
Yarn as a way to meet people who felt like home.
Yarn as an invitation to build a life where creativity wasn't an afterthought, but the centre. Yarn as the thread that connects me to a larger whole, a place where I belong.

Taking the Leap

So I listened.
I took the leap.
Good Loops became the doorway into a world I didn't yet understand but felt deeply called toward.

In the beginning it was simply about discovery—seeking out yarns with stories, yarns with place and history, yarns with soul. I travelled with yarn, for yarn, and sometimes because yarn was the only thread pulling me forward. Every skein felt like a companion, a guide, a reminder that belonging isn't always something you find—it's something you build.

Discovering Myself

And on that journey, something unexpected happened:
I started discovering myself.

Good Loops helped me discover and define the values that now anchor the brand.
It was through meeting makers, mills, dyers, farmers, and fibre lovers that I realised how important transparency, fairness, and mutual thriving really are.
It was through sitting at tables with strangers who became friends that I reconnected with the power of community.
It was through watching people light up at the feel of a particular fibre that I learned how joy and craft are inseparable.

Who I'm Becoming

Good Loops didn't come from who I already was.
It shapes who I am becoming.
It taught me courage.
It gave me a story of my very own—and a community to belong with.

And now, every skein that passes through my hands carries a piece of that journey:
the risk, the wonder, the hope, the homesickness, the homecoming.

Thank you for being part of this story.
It's still unfolding, loop by loop.
